South Africa, Durban – Thousands of protesters went out the streets Saturday in Durban, where UN climate summit will be held.

According to the protesters, negotiations are developing too slow, with potentially catastrophic consequences of climate change on the horizon.

Climate Justice, and no climate apartheid“, shouted the protesters.

According to them, the agreements so far is mainly for the benefit of large companies and the oil industry.

The mostly poor people who are exposed to heat waves, droughts and floods as the planet warms, would stand  in second place.

According to police, about 6,500 people gathered.

The negotiations got a boost this week when China announced on signing a binding agreement to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

China, India and the U.S. are the largest CO2 emitters in the world, and so far refuse to cooperate in the solution for a better environment.

The summit will last until Friday.
